Arts Scene
Soap Lake has a thriving arts community and an eccentric and eclectic range of amazing creators. The community of artists associated with Soap Lake extends beyond the town. A number of well-known local artists such as western art painter Don Nutt from Coulee City, landscape artist Kim Wheaton and weaver Judy Rice of Moses Lake, along with photographer Cheryl Morris of Ephrata have shown their work in Soap Lake. These and other artists often gather at Soap Lake art events, which include concerts and plays at Masquers Theater, gallery shows at the art museum and presentations at Las Brisas.
Soap Lake Art Museum
On the bustling corner of Highway 17 and Main Street is the Soap Lake Art Museum, affectionately referred to as SLAM. Residing within one of the oldest buildings in town, once the site of the well-known and frequented Weber Bathhouse, SLAM displays work from artists throughout the state of Washington. The owner and artist-in-residence is Brent Blake. Check the calendar for current and upcoming gallery shows.
Masquers Theater
A block west of SLAM is the extraordinary Masquers Theater, the pride-and-joy of the Soap Lake community and fans of performing arts throughout Grant County. In 2009 the theater celebrates thirty years of presenting live theater. During 2009 JACOL Filmworks, LLC sponsored a series of documentary films.
Soap Lake Area Art Guild
Once a month the Soap Lake Area Art Guild meets to spend time with a guest artist who is invited to show their work. The Art Guild sponsors a photography and artists contest and show each year.
