Directed by local filmmaker Kathy Kiefer, “Dirt Roads”
was produced as a gift to the community. The film debuted at Masquer’s
Theater in November, 2002.
Kiefer noted, “It ‘s a privilege and a great joy to
offer this special program to the community of Soap Lake, Masquers
Theater and to future generations of citizens who may otherwise
not know the history of this special place we call Soap Lake., I
hope the audience is as delighted as I have been exploring and discovering
precious images, heartfelt memories and the enduring stories that
are painted into this brief snapshot of Soap Lake’s past.
It’s an honor to give something back in the form of this documentary
as a gift to a place that I love so deeply.”
Over 200 historic photographs brought to life with animated moves
are woven alongside interviews with elders who grew up or were born
and raised in Soap Lake. Images, memories and documented facts are
woven together to create a delicious historic tapestry that serves
to keep alive the past of an amazing town that was, at the turn
of the last century, one of the most popular resort destinations
in the country.
