Built in 1914 by E. Paul Janes, a real estate speculator, this beautiful inn is an enduring Soap Lake classic. Using rock cobble from glacial deposits in nearby fields, Janes also built several small homes on Elder street and the "Rock castle" located on the corner of 1st Avenue SE and Elder street.

Roxy Thorson, who started the hotel in this building, sold Soap Lake salts and concentrated water to customers all over the country. Roxy's hard work and unusual manufacturing process gave her the title, "Queen of the Salt Mines." Her process involved evaporating Soap Lake water in large open reservoirs, producing hundreds of tons of mineral laden rock salt, which she ground into a fine powder. The Inn retains one of few owner transferred rights to extract water from the lake for the purpose of extracting mineral salts.

Today the Inn is owned by Dick and Sandra Garnett

Eighty years ago, the Beach Hotel was one of the most popular hotels in town. With a promenade overlooking the lake and the center of town and a cafe that was considered one of the finest places to eat on the east side of the state, it was a sure bet. The classic Beach Hotel has gone through several iterations. Today it is called the Notaras Lodge, named after the family owners. This spectacular log lodge has fifteen theme rooms with original decor including genuine historic and pre-historic artifacts, memorabilia and a hand hewn touch of charm in each room. Rooms include a kitchenette area and the choice of fresh or Soap Lake water.
